“Good fences make good neighbors,” wrote Robert Frost in his 1914 poem Mending Wall, about two New England farmers rebuilding a wall between their two properties. In examining the role of boundaries in human society, Frost mused on the understanding that a clearly marked and secure perimeter reduces tensions between neighbors and is important for peaceful coexistence.
It’s human nature to want to raise fences around our property to keep the uninvited out and provide security for our most precious assets. The need for safety and security only increases as populations grow and personal space becomes more prized. Having identified the problem, the solution then is simple: a fence. But what type of fence?
Here in the Cayman Islands, with sea salt spray, high humidity, tropical monsoons, and hurricane threats, the types of fencing suitable for installing around your home are limited — particularly if you want the fence to remain standing for long. Wooden fences are prone to rot or blowing down, iron rusts and plastic goes brittle and deteriorates under the tropical sun. The best choice by far for sturdy and secure fencing that will last as long as it’s needed is marine-grade aluminum, the go-to choice of metal fabrication services in the Cayman Islands and their customers.
Unlike steel, wrought iron, concrete, or wood, aluminum needs zero maintenance. It will not rot, it won’t rust or warp, or require painting — ever. It’s also 100% recyclable and can, in theory, be recycled infinitely. Aluminum fencing does pretty much the same job as wrought iron or steel but comes at about half the cost.
